Matcha Time Cafe is a calming place, tucked up on the hill in the parking lot, and perfect for when your feet get tired from shopping in historic Ellicott City or just want some moments of peace. On a recent visit, I tried the shrimp tempura udon and it made me feel warm on a chilly day. I would have preferred the tempura served on the side though because it gets soggy when put in the soup. I think the curry udon is quite unique too because that's not usually on Japanese menus in this area. For drinks, they have a range of teas, matcha OF COURSE, chai, and regular coffee. Their desserts are also a good option for sharing and a midday snack too! They sell mini matcha and yuzu cheesecakes, shave ice, and a matcha parfait. They used to have a gift shop inside but now the gift shop has its own space on main street. Recommend checking that out as well!

This place is a little hole in the wall of the charming Ellicott City. It's a little messy inside but it's cutely decorated and feels like it has soul. I got the matcha shaved ice and opted for toppings, which included mochi, red bean, and matcha ice cream. The ice was served in a cute leaf shaped bowl and was brought to us at our table. It took a little while but they were pretty busy during that time. The dish came out with a pool of liquid/matcha at the bottom, so we weren't sure if that was a part of it or if the ice melted a lot. It kept streaming out of the bowl onto the table, so we had to use a straw to sip it up. It would've been helpful if we had a tray underneath the bowl. That aside, the matcha flavor was strong and sweet. I felt like there was more topping than shaved ice, but maybe if it wasn't so busy, the ice would've had less time to melt. It was a nice dessert, but I'm not sure if it was worth $14 to me.

I really liked the atmosphere & vibe of the place. It's very cute & the staff is really nice. I just the onigiri & hojicha tea. It was average. I would definitely have to try more of the menu to see if I like any of the other food or drinks though!

Very friendly staff, lots of space for working or studying, delicious food, quiet, and affordable! I had to drive 30+ minutes to get here from Baltimore and would definitely do it 30 more times. I got the miso soup (which is vegan), seaweed onigiri, and a hot sweet matcha latte. They were all very good! This cafe is also child-friendly, and there are toys available for kids to play with. They ask that you wipe down the toys before you leave, which I think is pretty reasonable and a great public health strategy.
